Opening a Privately Run NHS Walk in Centre
This project was a high-profile opening of one of the Government’s flagship privately-operated, nurse-led, commuter walk in centres and was undertaken whilst Sarah Matthews of SFM Consulting was employed by General Medical Clinics PLC.
The original project plan was to open the Walk in Centre Monday 22nd January 2006 - some 14 weeks after signing the contract, however following signing the contract the requirement changed to open the Walk in Centre w/c Monday 12th December 2005 - only 6 weeks after signing the contract. The premises proposed for the Walk in Centre were already used by the Company for a private medical centre.
Sarah had been part of the team in the pre-contract negotiation, and following signing of the contract took responsibility for the following :
-
project management - using Microsoft Project: involving - co-ordinating colleagues responsible for building works, IT and marketing; weekly meetings with DoH Contract Manager to update on progress of all aspects of the project against the critical path
-
all HR issues (TUPE arrangements for staff working at the private centre on the premises to transfer to the Walk in Centre, workforce planning, recruitment, pre-employment checks - including CRB, induction training)•
-
relocation of the private medical centre, which was operating from the premises to be used for the Walk in Centre, to an existing medical centre owned by the Company.
-
compliance with regulations and Healthcare Commission inspection prior to opening
The outcome was opening of the walk in Centre, on time, on budget and in line with all DoH and regulatory requirements. The Centre was officially opened by the Health Secretary, Patricia Hewitt - on 24th January 2006.
