Prior to setting up SFM Consulting Sarah spent 7 years as Chief Operating Officer of General Medical Clinics (GenMed). At this City-based operator of private medical centres she had a wide range of responsibilities and she:
ran a project to register the centres with the National Care Standards Commission (the regulatory body);
was part of the negotiating team to win a contract to operate an NHS Walk-In Centre (Liverpool Street NHS Walk in Centre);
project managed the opening of the NHS walk in centre which opened ahead of time an on budget;
was responsible for the on-going operation of the walk in centre in line with an exacting contract;
consolidated the firm’s 5 centres into 4 locations;
was part of the team that negotiated the purchase of Finsbury Healthcare from Capita and undertook the due diligence; integration of Finsbury Healthcare into the group;
researched and introduced new services and products; researched and reformulated existing services and products to improve their profitability and market appeal; renegotiated supplier contracts; set up and managed the HR function;
responsible for compliance with regulatory standards including Health and Safety, management of all policies and procedures;
managing performance and profitability of each of the group’s centres;
participation in Board meetings;
involved in developing and implementing the strategy and associated budgets.
When she started at GenMed there were 25 staff and the business had a turnover of £3.7m and 7 years later the business had 80 staff a turnover of £7m
Prior to this her previous roles include: Business Development Director of a major private dental group (Dr J D Hull & Associates); Operations Manager of a national group of retail opticians (Specsavers). As an operations manager, Sarah’s experience covers everything from turning around under-performing retail branches; through analysing the line-by-line costs of providing services to major clients in order to increase their profitability; to building better websites.
HR experience includes working with a major cancer charity to undertake a pay and grading review to identify and review any inconsistencies in staff pay and reward; restructure of an SME that involved a redundancy; putting solid HR foundations in place for a number of rapidly growing organisations.
Sarah is regarded as someone who rolls their sleeves and puts her experience to work, to get things done for businesses, buying their principals the time they need to work on, not in, their businesses.
